New Drawing Classes

DRAWING ESSENTIALS I

(G. Kordis. 4 sessions via Zoom) —
MONTHLY ~ Tuesdays, 8 to 9:30pm Athens time
(1 to 2:30pm EST)

Similar in format to the on-going LIVE virtual classes, these classes are hosted through Zoom for 1.5 hours per session once a week on Tuesdays throughout the month. Professor Kordis explains the Byzantine painting system with her basic ideals and principles and reinforces the importance of drawing as a strong foundation from which to paint icons.

Together, a detailed exploration of the qualities and culture of lines, an analysis of old icons, and various drawing exercises are shared. The class will follow lessons in:

a. Drawing Heads. ( a. Dynamic frontally,
b. 3/4 heads).
c. Hands, Feet,
d. Garments,
e. The standing figure.
h. The seated Figure,
g. Moving figures Throughout the lessons, students will strengthen their overall drawing skills, learn familiarity with the Byzantine system, and gain their own readiness to compose more complex subjects.

Students will submit their drawings on line, with corrections and critique made during the group virtual meetings and/or individually via email with Professor Kordis.

Small compositions will be explored in March and again strengthened in April.

THE MONTH OF ΜΑΥ~ Tuesdays, 8 to 9:30pm Athens time
(1 to 2:30pm EST)

Price: 100$ /via PayPal

Similar in format to the on-going LIVE virtual classes, these classes are hosted through Zoom for 1.5 hours per session once a week on Tuesdays throughout the month. Structured as a natural continuation of the first set of classes, Professor Kordis will now teach composition in the framework of the Byzantine tradition with theory based on analysis of old icons with the emphasis on the composition of larger and more complex icon subjects:

a. The Annunciation, b. St. John Theologian writing the Apocalypse.
c. The Empty tomb,
d. The Holy Trinity.

Creative compositional approaches will be shared with emphasis on overall harmony and rhythm of the forms in unison with the specific subject.
Students will submit their drawings on line, with corrections and critique made during the group virtual meetings and/or individually via email with Professor Kordis.
